MAMPU, an agency under the Prime Minister Department which was entrusted to lead and implement the Malaysian Public Sector Open Source Software (OSS) Program is organising an OpenOffice.org competition. OpenOffice.org Competition is held in conjunction of MyGOSSC0N 2009 and the targeted groups are Primary Schools Level II ( Standard 4 – Standard 6) students in Putrajaya. This competition is mainly aimed at raising awareness about Open Source Software (OSS) among school students. The focus of this challenge is to encourage school students to use OpenOffice.org as an entry point in Open Source technology. This challenge creates opportunity for creative students to design a presentation slides with a wave of excitement. School students will be rewarded for their talents and creativeness in Open Source Software (OSS).

About

OpenOffice.org Competition involving school students level II (year 4-6). The theme for OpenOffice.org competition is 1 Malaysia. All participants have to use OpenOffice.org Impress version 3.1 to do their presentation slides. This competition will start on 9th September 2009 until 14th October 2009. The purpose of this competition is to encourage school students in using computer and introduce open source software to them.

Objectives

Objectives of this competition are:

• Raising awareness about Open Source Software (OSS) like OpenOffice.org among school students.
• To encourage all school students at Putrajaya area to use open standard like Open Documeent Format (ODF).
• School students will be rewarded for their talents and creativeness in Open Source Software (OSS).

Competition Concept

1. This competition is open for primary schools level II (year 4-6) at Putrajaya.
2. All participants have to prepare a presentation slides using OpenOffice.org Impress version 3.1.
3. The theme of the competition is “1 Malaysia – Rakyat didahulukan, Pencapaian diutamakan”
4. The presentation should include all the creative elements using text, audio, animation, graphic and etc.
5. Slide format:
   • All slides should be limited to 5-10 slides.
   • First slide should have these details:
     School name
     Supervisor
     Group members
     Title
   • Last slide should be a summary from the presentation.
6. All presentation have to email at mg09_openoffice@oscc.org.my or students can send the presentation in CDROM format to:

7. The final five (5) will be announced on 7th October 2009 and all five (5) groups have to do a presentation on 14th October 2009 at Pejabat Pelajaran Wilayah Persekutuan Putrajaya.

Conditions

1. Below are the conditions that need to be highlighted to all participants:-
   • Participants must form a group to participate in this competition. Each group must consists a maximum of 3 students.
   • Theme of the Competition – “1 Malaysia – Rakyat didahulukan, Pencapaian diutamakan”
   • Each Primary School in Putrajaya can ONLY send up to 3 groups for this competition
   • Each group MUST have at least 1 advisor and different group(s) from the same school can be accompanied by the same advisor.
   • Participating groups required to use OpenOffice.org Impress 3.1 to create a presentation slides.
   • For the final five (5), we will provide a computer with OpenOffice.org Impress version 3.1 but students can also bring their own laptop.

Judging

1. The competition will be conducted in 2 phases
   • Phase I
     • All the entry form should be submitted before or by 18^th September 2009
     • All the entries will be evaluated and Final 5 will be announced
   • Phase II
     • Final 5 will be invited to Jabatan Pelajaran Negeri Wilayah Persekutuan Putrajaya to present their presentation slides and winners announcement will be announce at the same day on 14^th October 2009
     • The award will be during the MyGOSSCON 2009 on 5^thNovember 2009
2. Panel of judges will be appointed that consist of personnel from OSCC MAMPU, JPN Putrajaya and OSS Community
   • Judging criteria will be based on the following:
     • Criteria fulfilling
     • Content of the presentation
     • Creativity – Multimedia elements (eg. Text, Music, Video, Graphics and Animation) will add value in the evaluation

Prizes

1. Participation certificate for all final five (5) groups.
2. Plaque and certificate for all the winners.
3. Bookstore voucher:-
   • 1st winner – RM600
   • 2nd winner – RM300
   • 3rd winner – RM150
